Date: 4/06 Classification: Non-exempt, full-time Reports To: Operations Manager Position Description: The job of the Community Outreach Manager is to recruit, schedule and manage volunteers in order to maintain fully staffed clinic shifts and home care facilities. The Community Outreach Manager will also establish relationships with local personnel to further the services that are provided to the cities and schools. The Community Outreach Manager needs to be a positive and friendly individual, able to work with all kinds of people and be able to work in a high-paced, challenging environment. The goal of the Community Outreach Manager is to support the volunteers in carrying out the mission of the organization and to maintain positive relationships with the local communities. The Community Outreach Manager reports to the Operations Manager. Volunteer Coordination Responsibilities: Recruits and screens interns and volunteers (clinic and homecare). Schedules all shelter volunteer and intern shifts. Works closely with the Animal Care Coordinators for volunteer and intern training requirements. Provides positive, empowering work environment for all employees and volunteers: Maintains monthly communications with all volunteers through email, telephone calls, and personal meetings. Facilitates recognition of volunteer’s accomplishments and contributions through personal contact and special events. Organizes yearly volunteer recognition event. Provides a forum for volunteer evaluation and problem-solving: Responds to all suggestions, questions, or solutions from volunteers. Alerts appropriate staff to volunteer’s concerns. Becomes the advocate and voice of the volunteer base to Wildlife Rescue’s Management team and Board of Directors. General organizational support: Attends special events and staff meetings as required. Performs other functions from time to time as assigned by the Operations Manager. Maintains all records, logs and files pertaining to volunteers. Prepares reports as directed by the Operations Manager. Community Outreach Responsibilities: Creates relationships with local city personnel in order to provide continued needed services. Works with local school personnel to promote the educational programs. Creates on-going good-will relationships with donation providers. Hours will be flexible during busy season (March-October) to allow for contact with volunteers on all shifts. Requirements: Post-secondary education or equivalent in related experience. Ability to use independent judgment and work in a fast-paced environment of frequently changing priorities. Ability to motivate others, generate enthusiasm, lead groups and individuals as well as establish one-on-one relationships with all types of people. Skill in use of IBM computer software including Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel. Knowledge of Volunteer Works and website management a plus. Must be familiar with email and web navigation. Ability to maintain enthusiasm while working under pressure. Answer the phone and greet the public in a professional manner. Experience and ability working with a team. Excellence in organizational skills and ability to work independently. Volunteer management experience and experience in the non-profit field very desirable.
