Taking Flight - Falcon Release Successful

Los Altos Town Crier - January 11, 2006 - Wildlife Rescue volunteer Lisa Konie releases a 15-year-old peregrine falcon at Shoreline Park in Mountain View Friday morning. The bird was discovered wounded and unable to fly at Palo Alto High School in November. Two bands on the falcon's legs revealed an interesting history. Serial numbers identified it as the offspring of one of the Santa Cruz Predatory Bird Research Group's earliest falcon breeding pairs. The eggshell encasing the embryonic falcon had been weakened by his mother's exposure to DDT. The research group fostered the falcon before the bird hatched.
